MANILA, Philippines — Senator-elect Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan took his oath of office on Wednesday afternoon, his camp Team Kiko Pangilinan said in a statement.
Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen administered Pangilinan’s oath at the high tribunal’s Session Hall in Padre Faura Street, Manila, it added.
As to why he chose to take his oath before Leonen, Pangilinan cited his and the associate justice’s experience working together in the Quezon City local government and as student-leaders at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
“To be sworn in by Justice Marvic Leonen is an honor and a challenge,” Pangilinan said in the statement.
“[It is] a challenge to live up to the values of integrity, independence, and service, especially at a time when our people are hungry not just for food, but for hope and good governance,” he added.
The senator-elect was joined by his wife, actress Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan; his mother, Emma Nepomuceno-Pangilinan; and his children, Frankie, Miel and Miguel.
Pangilinan placed fifth in the senatorial race, garnering 15,343,229 votes.
